The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels will host its annual “Mañanitas” musical tribute and Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe virtually this year via livestream on December 11 at 8 p.m., so that families can celebrate safely from home amid increased COVID-19-related public safety measures. Celebration schedule and details are available at http://www.olacathedral.org/guadalupe/. The celebration dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe will feature several artists serenading Our Lady, a Mariachi tribute, praying of the Rosary and Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop José H. Gomez. The artists that will be serenading “La Morenita” are: Andrea Andrea, Anna Betancourt, Adrian Cruz, Angel Garcia and Jacky Ibarra accompanied by Mariachi Charros de Oro de Adrian Cruz. The livestream beginning at 8 p.m. will be available on lacatholics.org/guadalupe and facebook.com/lacatholics. The celebration will also be broadcasted live on EWTN, EWTN Español, Guadalupe Radio and El Sembrador. The Holy Father, Pope Francis, announced that he will grant a Plenary Indulgence to anyone who celebrates Our Lady of Guadalupe at home, following the conditions stated in the attached document. This applies to all the faithful throughout the world! In addition to being a great spiritual gift for us, it can also serve as an incentive to keep our people healthy, most especially the poor who may not have access to health services. In addition to the livestreamed celebration, from December 9-12, the Cathedral will project and image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which will illuminate the highest point of the Cathedral in the evening hours and will be visible from surrounding streets in downtown Los Angeles. The faithful are invited to send a prayer petition and an offering of flowers for Our Lady through the Our Lady of Guadalupe Flower Fund. The donations will be used to decorate the images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego for the virtual celebration in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 11. To donate on line, go to https://www.osvonlinegiving.com/1675/Home/NewQuickGive and select GUADALUPE as your Fund (fund selection on the right hand side of the Quick Give Page). Also, an archival video of the Latino Theater Company’s “La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin” – a pageant play celebrating the miracles of Our Lady of Guadalupe which has been presented at the Cathedral for free since 2002 – will also be broadcasted on the Cathedral’s Facebook page at facebook.com/olacathedral so that the faithful can continue to celebrate this time-honored tradition.
