Dear UCLA Students, Alumni, and Friends of the UCC,
In light of the continued concern surrounding the coronavirus the Archbishop of Los Angeles in consultation with the Auxiliary Bishops, the Council of Priests and advice of medical experts, have suspended all Masses in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles beginning March 17-29 2020 and may be extended depending on the situation.
In addition to the suspension of all public masses:
Only regularly scheduled hours for the Sacrament of Reconciliation will continue (Thursdays and Saturdays, 4pm - 4:45pm)
The Church will remain open for private prayer during its regular hours.
Sunday mass will be livestreamed via a YouTube link on our Facebook site, "Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Community."
All Funerals are postponed except for the Rite of Committal, commonly known as the graveside service.
All Baptisms are postponed except for emergency baptisms.
Anointing of the Sick will continue to be celebrated, if the priest is not a high-risk individual.
Decisions about First Communions, Confirmations, and Holy Week celebrations will be made before Friday, March 27, 2020.
Archbishop Jose urged the faithful to remember in their prayers all those whose lives have been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. “Let us pray for all who are sick, as well as doctors, nurses, caregivers, and all those working hard to combat the disease. We should also remember those whose lives have been otherwise disrupted, especially anyone who has lost income from a loss of work during this difficult time.”
This has proven to be an unprecedented Lent which will undoubtedly leave us dissatisfied with many new realities. May our dissatisfaction lead us to deeper desire for a sincere conversation towards God and our brothers and sister in Christ.
